Frequently Asked Questions About Our Partners

Understanding the roles, capabilities and governance of Groupe Stratys consortium partners in Canadian defence and industrial integration.

What is GENTEC's role in the Groupe Stratys consortium?

GENTEC serves as the power electronics and precision manufacturing engine of the consortium. With over 65 years of manufacturing excellence, GENTEC designs and produces high-reliability power conversion systems, ruggedized assemblies, and energy management modules used in defence platforms, naval vessels, and critical infrastructure. Their Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) capabilities allow Groupe Stratys to offer DND-compliant production at scale. GENTEC holds significant Quality Management certifications and has experience delivering to both government and commercial defence programs.

What does AMOTUS/Vectanor bring to Canadian defence procurement?

AMOTUS/Vectanor contributes industrial IoT intelligence, smart microgrid management, and distributed infrastructure control to the consortium. Their Fundamentum platform provides real-time monitoring, control, and optimization of distributed energy assets — critical for Arctic remote operations, base infrastructure resilience, and cyber-secure energy systems. In the context of NORAD Modernization and Arctic sovereignty, Vectanor's ability to manage isolated and hybrid energy grids in extreme climates provides a unique and strategically valuable capability that aligns directly with DND's northern operations requirements.

Why is Techsol Marine's expertise critical for naval defence programs?

Techsol Marine is a specialized marine electrical systems integrator with a track record of equipping over 600 ships across 35 countries. In the context of Canada's National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) and the Canadian Surface Combatant program, Techsol Marine delivers vessel electrification, decarbonization solutions, and shore power infrastructure that meets both operational and environmental requirements. Their experience with marine-grade electrical systems — including propulsion controls, power distribution, and automation — makes them an indispensable partner for any naval construction or retrofit program under the NSS umbrella.

How does Triode accelerate innovation within the consortium?

Triode brings over 20 years of product development and project management expertise, with deep roots in defence innovation and industrial mobility. As the consortium accelerator, Triode bridges the gap between concept and deployment — managing prototype development, technology transfer processes, and programme governance. Their experience with defence innovation programs (including IDEaS and SBIR-equivalent structures) enables the consortium to participate in innovation-focused procurement vehicles. Triode also manages IP strategy, ensuring that technologies developed under Crown contracts are properly protected and positioned for commercialization and export.

How do the four consortium partners maintain governance and avoid IP conflicts?

Groupe Stratys operates under a formal consortium agreement that establishes clear governance structures for IP ownership, export control compliance (ITAR/EAR where applicable), revenue sharing, and subcontract management. Each partner retains ownership of its background IP while jointly developed foreground IP is governed by the consortium agreement. For Crown contracts, the consortium has designated Groupe Stratys Inc. as the prime contractor entity, with each partner holding defined subcontractor roles. This structure is fully compliant with PSPC procurement guidelines and DND contracting policies, including those governing ITB/IRB obligations.

Can individual Groupe Stratys partners bid on defence contracts independently?

Yes — each consortium partner maintains full legal and commercial independence and can pursue contracts individually in their respective domains. However, the strategic advantage of the Groupe Stratys consortium is that it enables the partners to jointly respond to complex, large-scale defence and infrastructure tenders that require Systems of Systems integration, ITB compliance, and cross-domain capability. For major programs such as NORAD Modernization, NSS vessel projects, or Arctic surveillance infrastructure, the consortium approach provides procurement officers with a single, accountable prime that can deliver end-to-end integrated capability that no single partner could offer alone.
